]]>The art of journaling has evolved beyond pen and paper. Digital journaling options are becoming a powerful tool for personal growth, mental health, and happiness.
Journaling, especially with user-friendly digital platforms, offers numerous psychological benefits. It's a therapeutic exercise that allows individuals to clarify their thoughts and feelings, leading to a greater understanding of themselves.
Studies have shown that the act of writing down our experiences and emotions can lead to enhanced mental clarity, improved problem-solving skills, and better stress management.
This process of self-reflection and expression aids in processing complex emotions, fostering a sense of inner peace and emotional resilience.
Journaling can also be a catalyst for boosting one’s mood and overall sense of well-being. It encourages mindfulness, helping individuals to live in the present moment and appreciate life's journey.
So, Apple releasing their journal app to their ~1.5b active iPhone users is very impactful.
The Apple Journal app emerges not just as a digital tool, but as a companion in one’s quest for happiness and mental wellness.
It provides a private, accessible space for individuals to record their life stories, emotions, and memories, contributing significantly to their emotional health and personal legacy.
Let's explore how this innovative app is revolutionizing the way we capture and preserve our personal histories and familial stories. How can we get the most out of it?
You can find it in the Apple App Store:
The Apple journal app was announced in June 2023 and released in the December iOS update, version 17.2. If you can’t find the app on your device, you might need to upgrade your iOS.
Once you have iOS version 17.2, you’ll be able to download and use the app.
It’s free to download and use!
The Apple Journal app is very easy to use.
When you first open it up, you can press the “+” button to begin writing.
You’ll be able to record simple text entries, but there are also lots of other options!
Voice to text:
You can use the microphone option to quickly record your voice and have the app transcribe your sentences to text. This works great if you want to record faster, but still want text-based entries.
Since you can easily speak 100-200 words per minute, it’s much faster than typing – especially on your phone!
Voice Notes:
You can also just record your voice and capture a voice note as your journal entry for the day. You’ll be able to listen back to the audio recording later. It might be fun to capture stories from friends, parents, or kids using this feature!
Photos:
You’re able to attach an existing photo, or take a photo during your entry if you’d like to enrich the content of your journal entry.
Location:
You can also add the location you were in during your journaling if you’d like to keep track of all your trips!
Suggestions / Moments
When you tap the magic wand, you’ll receive suggestions from your phone based on activities you’ve been doing – like workouts, photos, music, places you’ve been, etc.
Reflections
The Journal app will offer you prompts with ideas to write about. These can help with writer’s block if you aren’t sure what to write about on a given day! Following these prompts would be a great way to get some deep reflection into your journal (instead of just a log of the events in your life).
Journaling Schedule
You can set up a journaling schedule so that you can get reminders to journal each day (or only on some days, if you’d prefer!).
You’ll find this in Settings → Journal → Journaling Schedule.
Then you can choose what time you’d like to get reminded, and on which days of the week.
Security
Apple will let you lock your journal – so it’ll be even more secure than the journal you had when you were a kid with the tiny plastic key 😅.
Your journal entries are end-to-end encrypted, which means if the data was somehow stolen, it shouldn’t be readable without your device’s encryption key. You can also lock in on your device, so that even if someone has access to your device, they’ll have another hurdle to jump over before they can start reading your deepest darkest secrets.
iPad and Mac
You might have noticed that the Journal app isn’t on your iPad, and isn’t even in the app store for iPad.
It sounds like apple had plans to release an iPad app and a Mac app, but hasn’t gotten to it just yet.
Cross your fingers – they’ll probably release it on the other platforms so that you can have your journal synced up across all your devices through iCloud, and record your journal entries from all your favorite Apple devices.
We’re excited about the release! We believe in capturing, recording, and telling stories. Anything that helps people do that easier is a win in our eyes. As long as the security is well taken care of, we’re happy that more people will keep better records of their lives and have more stories to share.

We even heard about his journey with horses, his love of golf, his falling in love with his wife Lucy, and their amazing life in retirement.
It was such an honour to capture Harvey's life story.

Centenarians have a multitude of history, life lessons, and stories that are too invaluable to be forgotten. They are highly respected all over the world for their wisdom, resilience, and insight.
Did you know that there are around 13,000 Centenarians in Canada? They have the unique opportunity to receive a letter from the King when they reach this milestone. In the United States, the numbers are even more astounding, with roughly 100,000 Centenarians who can get a letter from the President to mark this special occasion. In Ireland, reaching 100 years is not just celebrated within the family but recognized with a “Centenarians' Bounty” of €2,540 (regardless of where they live now). If you live in Barbados, you could be included in a line of Centenarian Postage Stamps featuring those who have reached the precious age of 100!
We believe it's high time that these amazing individuals are celebrated by us, too!
From all of us at No Story Lost, thank you, Centenarians, for being a testament to the incredible journey of a life well lived.

]]>The English language is full of examples of words that sound alike but mean entirely different things. In this post, we will discuss "then" vs "than" and will explain how to use them in conjunction with other phrases. We will provide context for each word and meaning so that by the end, you should be able to use these two words without any confusion!
Then
Let's start with the word "then". This is used when you want to express something related to time or a sequence. You might use it to link actions or events in a time-based manner, like, "First I ate dinner with my brother, then we watched a movie." We use the word "then" to connect actions or ideas, to show what happens next, in conjunction with a previous time or as a consequence of something.
Than
Now it's time to introduce the word "than". An easy way to remember how to use this is to consider "than" the comparison word.
If you want to compare adjectives to each other, such as "a 5th grader is smarter than a 4th grader" or "a cheetah is faster than a sports car", "than" is your go-to word. It allows you to weigh options, assess qualities, make comparisons and ultimately helps to clarify your thoughts when you're making choices or judgments.
Common Mistakes
People commonly mix up the usage of "then" and "than" in the English language all the time due to their confusingly similar spelling and nuanced differences. Sometimes, it's a mere typo or autocorrect feature that causes confusion, but other times, it occurs because these two words sound almost identical, especially when talking at a fast pace.
In informal speech, using a sentence like, "I'd rather be watching Netflix then doing my homework" might go unnoticed, but in modern writing, it's considered a mistake. To be grammatically correct, you would need to rephrase it as, "I'd rather be watching Netflix than doing my homework."
It's important to ensure that right word is used with these adjectives to express the difference between these two common words and common phrases.
Examples
There are many times when "then" and "than" are used incorrectly in both speaking and writing.
For example, an incorrect use would be: "I would rather eat pizza then salad." In this sentence, using "then" suggests a sequence or order of events, which does not align with the intended meaning of a comparison. The right word to use here is "than": "I would rather eat pizza than salad."
An example of a correct use of the word "than" would be: "She is more talented than her sister." In this example, "than" is used to establish a comparison between two individuals. In this instance, you would not use the word "then", because this preposition does not provide the element of comparison.
Usage For Comparison Purposes
You could use the preposition "than" to compare a large variety of adjectives, such as height, age, preference, ability etc.
For example, you could say, "My hair is longer than yours," or, "This meal tastes better than last night's dinner."
Making a grammar error and using "then" can change the meaning and confuse the reader. To ensure your sentence makes grammatical sense, always double-check the usage.
For example, "The current President Biden is older than then president President Trump." In this example, both "than" and "then" are used - did you catch the distinction between the two?
Different Meanings
Although they may sound like the same word, they have different meanings and serve different functions in a sentence. "Then" deals with time, order, or consequence, while "than" is all about making direct comparisons.
Think of sentences with "then" as the timeline guy and "than" as conjunction for an adjective, each serving a different purpose.
Tips for Remembering
If you struggle with remembering the essential difference between "then" and "than," we've put together some helpful tips for you.
To associate "then" with the concept of time, think of the rhyming word "when." This connection will help to remember that "then" is used to place events in a specific order, whether past, present or future.
For the word "than," think of making an unequal comparison. This association will remind you that "than" is a conjuction, utilized when comparing one thing with another.
Practice Exercises
Want to put what you've learned about then vs than to the test? Here are some quick exercises to help you remember the difference, practice and reinforce your understanding.
My sister is taller than my brother.
He walked the dog, then did his homework.
First, we mix the dry ingredients, then we add the wet ingredients.
I like driving in my car more than riding my bike.
If you identified the usage of "than" and "then" in the previous sentences, congratulations! These two words can be easily confused, but with practice, it will become easier to distinguish their meaning in the appropriate contexts. Keep practicing!
Final Thoughts
So there you have it—your comprehensive guide to conquering the confusing "then" vs. "than" dilemma, provided by our informal No Story Lost School of Grammar. With some practice and maybe a mnemonic or two, you'll remember the difference between these words, every time.
Always remember, at a specific point in time, "then" has an 'e' for events, which will point to something that occurred in the past or will happen in the future time. On the other hand, "than" has an 'a' for comparing apples and oranges—or whatever you like to compare at any particular time!
Still Need Help?
While you might be able to get away with confusing "than" and "then" when you speak, these words need to be used correctly in your writing.
If you would like to write a book about your life story, but are worried that your writing skills are not where they need to be, let us do the work for you. We have skilled interviewers and writers who went to school to learn exactly how to use these words and their meaning and will create a beautiful, error-free book for you and your family to cherish forever. There comes a point in our lives where we need to consider a shift to a retirement home or an independent living facility. The day-to-day of taking care of a family home and yard might become too much, or we may just want to enjoy life without the burden of daily chores. With services and amenities like cleaning services, organized events, and meal plans, residents of independent living communities are free to focus on what makes them happy.
Choosing the Right Senior Living Community
Three of the biggest factors when choosing the best retirement community are location, amenities and costs. Make sure you ask yourself the right questions: Do you see yourself participating in group activities? Is the place conveniently located near your family and healthcare providers? Is transportation available? Will you be able to afford it? Below are some factors and benefits to consider when choosing your independent living community.
Financial Considerations
Most retirement communities and independent living facilities have monthly fees that cover rent, utilities, and additional services. Before making your decision, learn about what is included in these monthly fees and what may come at an extra cost. Extra services and amenities such as fitness classes and tennis courts are nice, but if you have limited financial resources, you may need opt out of these options.
You will want to determine which services you will require from your new retirement community. Understanding the difference between independent living and assisted living is important; assisted living may involve additional costs for nursing staff and specialized care.
Recreational programs will add to your monthly fee, but they might make a big different in the quality of your daily life. It's ultimately up to you to weigh the benefits against the independent living costs to determine the right fit.
Maintaining Independence in an Assisted Living Facility
If you need to transition to an assisted care facility, it doesn't mean you have to completely give up your freedom or lifestyle. Staff will be there to help you with daily tasks, but you can still go out to buy your own groceries or catch up with friends over coffee. You will want to choose the assisted living facility that provides the right balance between assistance with daily living and relaxed lifestyle that you desire.
If you're worried that your new home may feel like an institution, don't fret. There are things you can do in your apartment to give it a personal touch—hang up photos, bring in your favorite furniture, or set up a little garden on your balcony. This can make your space feel truly yours, giving you a sense of independence and comfort.

Some facilities even allow seniors to cook their own meals in the comfort of their own apartments. This not only promotes a sense of independence but also enables seniors to share quality time with their loved ones, as family members can join them for a home-cooked meal.

This setup makes life easier for both you and your family members, reducing the stress that goes along with such a transition.
Technology and Innovation
Technology plays a big role in senior living apartments and assisted living facilities. From wifi to smart home features, to security, you will find it everywhere.
Some retirement communities use technology to keep residents and their family members updated on community events through mobile apps. They also offer classes that teach their residents how to use these programs!
These tech-driven developments are not only enhancing convenience and connectivity in daily activities but are also providing seniors in the independent living community with effortless access to essential medical care and medical assistance, considerably improving health outcomes.
Wellness Programs and Fitness Facilities in Independent Living
Physical activity is especially important as you age. You may want to choose a facility that includes facilities and services that will help you lead an active lifestyle.
Many communities also bring in guest instructors for special workout sessions or wellness talks. Some independent living communities even have walking or jogging trails so that you can enjoy the fresh air while getting exercise.
You will want to choose the senior living options that best suit your wellness needs.
Creating a Supportive Community in Independent Living
Making friends and participating in community activities not only improves your social life but also creates a support network for times when you may need it. It's nice to know that you have friends that you can reach out to if need support.
Whether it's joining a book club, attending social events at the fitness center, or taking part in organized outings, staying engaged with fellow seniors fosters a sense of belonging and community.
Life Enrichment Programs
Some independent living communities offer enrichment programs like language learning, cooking classes, or even college courses for older adults.
These special programs are a great way to keep your brain active and meet other older adults with similar interests. You might just discover a hidden talent or reignite a long-lost passion!

Cooking Tradition: How Family Recipes Link Generations

]]>Sometimes our parents are skeptical or aren’t too comfortable with the idea of sharing their life stories and will need some convincing. Below are some ideas that might help them ease into the process and make it an enjoyable experience for everyone.
To start the discussion, emphasize the importance of their stories. Explain how their life experiences can serve as valuable guidance, a source of inspiration, and a feeling of connection for their children and grandchildren. Some people think that their life isn’t exciting enough to talk about, but one thing we’ve learned over the years is that everyone is interesting, and has a legacy worth sharing!
When addressing this subject, be sure to approach it with great sensitivity. Understand that certain stories might be private or sensitive, and that’s okay. Reassure them that you're interested in safeguarding their distinct outlook on life and the values they've nurtured through their journey. Once your parent realizes that they have control over the process, they become more comfortable with sharing their memories.
Impart to them the potential for younger family members to gain wisdom from their experiences. This is usually what gets resistant storytellers on board! Once presented as a legacy for their children and grandchildren, they become less guarded, and more comfortable sharing their stories and values.
To alleviate any concerns or discomfort, offer your assistance. We encourage you to join your parents for the interviews to help jog memories and relay important narratives. This turns out to be a fun process for everyone!
Frame the act of sharing their stories as a gift, not just to themselves but to the entire family. Some people think that writing a book about themselves is indulgent, but when presented as a gift to their family, they see it in a completely different light. One of our first clients was our friend, Stef. Her Dad said he didn’t want to do it. Full stop. Talk to someone he didn’t know about his life? No, thank you. But she told him he’d be doing it for Stef and for his future grandkids. That sure got him. He changed his tune pretty quickly! Her dad ended up loving the interviews and now couldn’t be happier with his book.
Mention that recounting their life's journey can be a healing experience for them. Reflecting on their stories provides them with a sense of achievement, as well as a chance for closure for anything they may regret.
Begin by suggesting a specific event or memory that holds a special place in their hearts. This approach is less overwhelming and gives them a sense of accomplishment as they embark on sharing their stories. We find that once the storyteller gets comfortable, the floodgates open and the memories really start to flow.
Above all, respect their boundaries. If there are topics that they'd rather not delve into, honour their wishes and concentrate on the narratives they're comfortable revealing. After all, these are their stories to tell and they need to feel safe with what they’re sharing.
Encouraging your parents to tell their stories is an investment worth taking! By highlighting the importance of their experiences, offering your support, and creating a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, you can encourage them to open up and share. Remember that their willingness to reveal their personal stories is a valuable gift, and the tales they share will form a lasting legacy cherished by future generations.
Choose from three different story packages and get started on recording your parents’ memories today!
]]>To vs. Too
"To" and "too" are easy to mix up in English, even for seasoned writers. "Too" is mainly an adverb, showing excess or agreement, like "That's too much salt for me" or "I love that song too!"
Meanwhile, "to" is mostly about direction or purpose, as in "going to the store" or "learning to dance."
By identifying the difference between these two, your writing becomes clearer, making you a more effective communicator in every conversation.
Differences in Meaning
"Too" and "to," two commonly confused words, might look similar, but they play different roles in our language. "To," as defined in the dictionary, is mostly about direction or purpose, like "heading to the park" or "I want to dance." It can also show relationships, such as giving a book "to her."
In contrast, "too" is about excess or agreement. It means something is more than necessary ("This soup is too hot!") or shows agreement ("I love that song too!").
Grammatical Usage
Understanding the difference between "too" and "to" can be a bit tricky, but it's important for clear communication. "Too" often means "excessively" or "also," like when your tea is "too hot" or when you "want some ice cream too."
Meanwhile, "to" usually shows direction, such as going "to the store" or wanting "to dance."
Despite their similar look and pronunciation, they have different roles in sentences and mean very different things.
Common Mistakes
Navigating the world of "too" and "to" can trip up many, despite their familiarity. They might sound alike, but they play different roles in our language.
Think of "too" as the extra one—it often means "also" or indicates an excess, like "That's too much" or "I want to come too." Meanwhile, "to" is about direction or action, as in "going to the beach" or "to run."
The difference might be just one letter, but understanding their unique uses can make your communication clearer. So, remember, "too" is like a bonus, and "to" points the way!
Usage in Sentences
Think of "too" as adding a bit extra; it can mean "also" or emphasize something, like "She ate too many cookies with a funny expression on her face." It's hinting she ate more cookies than she probably should have, which made her test a little off.
On the flip side, "to" is more about direction or action. When we say, "We walked to the park and had a speech about responsible cookie consumption," we're talking about the destination. And if you've ever said, "I want to eat ice cream and make it happen," you're using "to" to introduce an action.
These small words can make a big difference in clear communication, so it's worth getting them right!
Indicating Excess or Addition
Navigating the world of "too" and "to" can be tricky. Think of "too" as the extra guy - it means there's a lot of something or adds a layer to your sentence, like "The crowd laughed too much," suggesting they might've laughed more than expected.
Now, "to" is more of a connector. In the sentence, "She decided to buy a new book," the word "to" links her decision with the of buying. It's more about direction or purpose.
While "too" gives emphasis, "to" ties parts of our sentence together. Keeping them straight helps your writing be clear and spot-on.
Denoting Comparison
Navigating the distinct meanings of "too" and "to" can be a bit of a maze, but we promise you can get through it, even if you've been using them wrong for over a decade.
"Too" is all about overdoing it; it screams "more than enough." If you say, "The suitcase was too heavy for me to carry," you're basically stating the correct phrase that the suitcase might as well be filled with bricks!
Meanwhile, "to" is a connector word. In this sentence, "She ran to the finish line faster than her competitors," the "to" tells us where she ran and makes a little comparison on the side.
Remember, "too" is about excess, while "to" is mostly about direction or comparison. Understanding the distinction between these two words is crucial in crafting a logical and intelligible message.
Expressing Purpose
"Too" and "to" might seem like twins at first glance, but they're more like distant cousins in the world of grammar, each with their separate meanings.
Think of "too" as the drama queen of the duo, adding flair and intensity, like in "I was too tired to continue," where it accurately conveys the exhaustion: "I wasn't just tired; I was wiped out!" Sometimes, "too" just wants to join the party and means "also," like "I, too, went to the party."
Meanwhile, "to" is our trusty guide, pointing out directions, intentions, or kicking off actions in its infinitive form. It assists in constructing complete sentences like "I am going to the park" or "She sang to entertain," ensuring the usage of the correct word to express purpose.
Keeping these two in their lanes helps our words make sense and our messages shine.
Replacing "Also" or "As well"
Looking to jazz up your writing with some fresh ways to add information? Sure, "also" and "as well" are handy, but there are a lot of other alternatives.
For a bit of flair, try "moreover" to add emphasis to your next big point. If you're aiming for smooth transitions, "furthermore" is your friend. Need something formal? "Additionally" can class up any sentence and if you're feeling a bit adventurous, phrases like "in addition" or "as if that weren’t enough" might be right up your alley.
So, the next time you're writing an article, remember the difference between "too" and "to," remember the spelling, and remember that' it's an easy way to add emphasis where necessary. Variety's the spice of life, and there’s no shortage of ways to serve up extra info!
Understanding Context
In the English language, the difference between two small words may seem trivial, but their usage can significantly impact the different meanings and clarity of any given sentence.
To grasp this distinction fully, you need to develop an understanding of the context in which each word is used. You will need to explore their diverging functions in different contextual situations, such as an excessive amount or expressing direction, in order to shed light on this common linguistic challenge. Understanding the belief behind their usage and the intent of the speaker is crucial in comprehending the application in a correct sentence.
Idiomatic Expressions
Idioms give language its flair, turning plain words into colorful expressions.
Take "too" and "to" as examples of commonly confused homophones. "To go too far" isn't about distance but refers to going beyond an excessive degree, maybe said or done something in a higher degree of intensity. Meanwhile, if something's "too good to be true," it implies it's so fantastic that you're a bit suspicious about it.
These two words (three words, if you include 'two', but we'll get to that another time!) in idiomatic expressions create a delightful range of interpretations, expanding their original definitions. While "too" and "to" might seem simple on the surface, in idioms they help make our conversations lively, rich, and full of vivid interpretations.
Common Confusions
Too vs to often cause confusion among English speakers due to their similar sounds but are in fact, quite distinct.
"Too," an adjective with several meanings, typically signifies an excess or addition, as exemplified in "I ate too much cake" or "I love pizza, too." On the other hand, "to" serves the purpose of indicating direction or intent, such as in "I went to the party" or "I need to finish homework."
Misusing these two commonly confused words can completely alter the intended message of a sentence. Despite their seemingly insignificant size, comprehending their two meanings is crucial for effective communication and avoiding misunderstandings.
It's all about recognizing their unique roles in a complete sentence together, which can be exemplified through the sample sentences above. Understanding the distinctions between "too" and "to" and mastering the proper usage of these words, whether they function as an adjective or a preposition, is an essential skill for effective communication.

They say the profession of nursing is both an art and a science, and deeply rooted in the underpinnings of nursing mentorship is storytelling. Storytelling is an invaluable tool amongst professionals for building rapport with patients and families in stressful circumstances.
Adaptations of storytelling in health care include:
My most powerful illustration of storytelling is when I would provide end-of-life care to a patient in the intensive care unit. I would receive a verbal report from a nurse at the beginning of my shift, detailing the events that led the patient to the current state of health they were in, often ready or in the progress of end-of-life care. Many times, I never had the opportunity to speak to the patient directly, but I often met loved ones who were present at the bedside for their final hours. How do you not only navigate meeting strangers for the first time during the worst moment of their lives but also build rapport to establish trust and a professional therapeutic relationship?
Storytelling.
My approach was directed by a decade of well-developed nursing gestalt. Some families mourned quietly; angrily and/or privately. Most engaged in conversation and wanted to break up the monotonous beeping and stillness of an ICU room with conversation. It was these families with whom I’d say, “I’d love to know more about John. What’s your favourite story of him?”
If my instinct was right, this would spark many memories shared in waves of somber reflection, to joyous laughter and tears that were both happy and mournful. It helped me care for the patient in a deeper, more meaningful way. To learn about their amazing life and how I was shepherding them to their peaceful final resting place with dignity, warmth, and respect.
With the value storytelling adds to so many aspects of life, it comes as no surprise that No Story Lost was such a fitting extension for legacy planning.
No Story Lost prioritizes the client experience at the centre of their process. They make it easy to share your stories and photos with a creative team who can craft your legacy into a beautiful final book. Legacies captured within the pages of a hardcover book are a treasure trove of stories that can be passed down between generations. You never need to find a CD ROM player, upgrade operating system software, or use other dated technology to reach the story. No Story Lost keeps it simple and timeless.
Now more than ever, society is eager to learn about their family stories and origins through ancestral genetic DNA registries. Imagine receiving a book from a grandparent that highlights the personal and beautiful stories of their generation.
Lastly, in a world filled with “things”, gift givers are seeking more experiential gifts to give to their loved ones during the holidays. As people age, they want for less and value the meaning behind the gifts they receive. I couldn’t think of a more beautiful gesture than giving the gift of No Story Lost. This sends a message that their life has so much beauty, meaning, and worth; it should be preserved forever.
Documenting one’s legacy through storytelling requires some preparation and planning.
By working with an advanced care planning company like ACE Planning Company, we can help determine the most appropriate timeframe for your story legacy planning project to begin. For families with loved ones with neurodegenerative disease who experience delirium, ACE Planning Company can also help determine the best times for scheduling the No Story Lost interviews, based on optimal times of lucidity in consultation with the family.
I know professionally and personally, the pain you feel when your loved one is gone and you forget a story that they told you about their life. I would give anything to go back and document these if I could. Please consider my story and a decade of expertise as a cautionary tale to capture those beautiful stories proactively while you have the chance. I went into the nursing profession to help and care for others. What I never imagined I would take away from my career is a collection of incredible life stories and lessons learned from my patients and their families. For this reason, I believe in the mission of No Story Lost and the gift they are giving to generations of families through legacy work.

The Difference Between It's and Its
Understanding the difference between 'its' and 'it's' can be tricky. Simply put, 'its' shows possession, like the dog wagging its tail. On the other hand, 'it's' is a short way of saying 'it is' or 'it has', like in "it's been a long day".
The pesky apostrophe makes a big difference in meaning. Mixing them up can change the whole message of a sentence. By knowing when to use each one, your writing becomes clearer and more effective.
Its as a Possessive Pronoun
'Its' and 'it's' can be tricky in English. While they sound the the same way, they have different meanings.
'Its' shows that a thing previously mentioned is related to something else, like "The cat licked its paws." This usage is without an apostrophe. On the other hand, 'it's' is short for 'it is' or 'it has'. Think of the apostrophe as a hint that some letters (i t s) are missing. Even experienced writers mix them up, but once you get the hang of it, it's like riding a bike.
Remember, if you can replace it with 'it is' or 'it has', use 'it's'. Otherwise, 'its' (without an apostrophe) is your go-to. By understanding this difference, your writing will be clearer and more polished.
It's as a Contraction
Navigating the 'its' versus 'it's' maze in English can be a real head-scratcher. 'It's' is just a short way of saying 'it is' or 'it has'. Like when we say, "It's raining" - we really mean "it is raining." On the flip side, 'its' (without the apostrophe) is about ownership, like "The dog chased its tail." In this case, we're talking about the tail that belongs to the dog.
It's easy to get tripped up because we often use apostrophes for possession, but not with the pronoun 'its'. Think of it this way: if you can use an apostrophe to indicate possession, then 'it's' is your buddy. Otherwise, stick with 'its'.
The Role of Its in Describing Possession
Getting the hang of "its" versus "it's" can be tricky, especially in the context of describing possession. Simply put, "its" shows ownership without needing to point out who or what owns something, like when you say, "The car lost its wheel." On the other hand, "it's" is a mashup of "it is" or "it has." So, if you're chatting about a company unveiling something new, you'd say, "The company unveiled its new logo," not "The company unveiled it's new logo," as the latter is the shorter version of "it is," which doesn't make sense in this context.
Remember, if you can swap out "it is" or "it has," then you want "it's." But for claiming something belongs to a non-human thing or group, go with "its." Using these two forms correctly helps keep our words clear and confusion-free, ensuring that we don't end up in the wrong and confused about who or what possesses what, whether it's a car, a house, or in our case, the last meeting.
The Role of It's in Shortening
Diving into the distinction between "it's" and "its" can be a game-changer in ensuring clear communication.
Think of "it's" as a shortcut for the phrases "it is" or "it has." For example, instead of stating "it is raining," we can simply say, "it's raining." Similarly, "it's been a long day" is a more streamlined version of "it has been a long day." This contraction keeps our languages flowing smoothly and efficiently.
It's essential not to get "it's" mixed up with "its," which defines ownership. Knowing the difference helps us maintain the clarity and sharpness of our chats and writings.
Understanding the Rules for Using It's and Its
Navigating the "it's" vs. "its" maze can be tricky, but understanding the rules for using it's and its is key for clear texts and notes.
Here's the simple scoop: "its" is about ownership, like "The dragon destroyed its base." It's saying that the base belongs to the dragon. But "it's"? That's a shortcut for "it is" or "it has." Think "It's raining" or "It's been fun!"
When in doubt, ask yourself: are you talking about owning something or are you trying to say "it is" or "it has"? Getting this right means your message is clear and you avoid those easy-to-make mix-ups.
Common Mistakes with Its and It's
Navigating "its" and "it's" is a commonplace mistake frequently encountered in written English.
A notable obstacle is that people often erroneously assume that "it's" is the possessive form due to the presence of an apostrophe, which is pronounced incorrectly. However, in actuality, "its" is the correct word when indicating ownership, as exemplified by the sentence "The lion stalked its prey." Conversely, "it's" serves as a shorthand for "it is" or "it has," as can be observed in the phrase "It's cold today," meaning "It is cold today."
A helpful tip to discern the appropriate usage is to substitute the phrase with "it is" or "it has" and assess if it still maintains coherence, serving as a point of reference.
Examples of Correct Usage for Its and It's
Here's the scoop on "its" vs. "it's": "Its" is all about ownership. Think: "The tree lost its leaves." But "it's"? That's just a quicker way to say "it is" or "it has".
For example, "It's snowing" means "It is snowing", and "It's been fun" is short for "It has been fun". A simple trick? If you can swap in "it is" or "it has", then "it's" is your guy. But if you're showing something belongs to something, go with "its".
When to Use Its and It's in Writing
Alright, let's break down this article about "When to Use Its and It's" simply: "Its" shows ownership, like in the old Irish Proverb, "Constant company wears out its welcome." It's important to explain that "its" signifies belonging, indicating that the welcome belongs to the constant company. On the flip side, "it's" is just a shorter way of saying "it is" or "it has."
For instance, "It's sunny" means "It is sunny." Remember, if you can replace it with "it is" or "it has", then "it's" is your pick. But if you're talking about something owning something else, "its" is the way to go.
Tips for Avoiding Confusion Between Its and It's
Using "its" and "it's" correctly can be tricky, even for seasoned writers. Here's a simple breakdown: "its" shows ownership, like in "The bird spread its wings" indicating that the wings belong to the bird. Meanwhile, "it's" is a shortened version of "it is" or "it has," serving as a contraction that combines the two words into one, as in "It's cold," which means "It is cold." A good trick is to see if "it is" or "it has" fits in your sentence; if yes, use "it's." Otherwise, go with "its."
Proofreading is important, as spelling check programs might not catch these errors. Whenever in doubt, refer to grammar guides or ask a friend to read over your work. With practice and diligence, you'll master the difference between "it's" and "its" and make your writing shine. You will avoid the confusion that can arise from the usage of these pesky apostrophes and distinguishing between possessive pronouns and possessive adjectives.
It's important to note that in informal writing, the distinction between "it's" and "its" might not be as critical, but in a more formal context, using the correct possessive determiner is key. This week, make a conscious effort to practice using "its" and "it's" correctly in your writing.
Remember, "it's" is the contraction while "its" is the possessive form. When referring to a neutral object, use base pronoun "its" rather than "his" or "her." By familiarizing yourself with the correct usage of these personal pronouns, you can avoid confusion and maintain grammatical precision.
Practical Ways to Practice Differentiating Between Its and It's
To get a grip on "its" vs. "it's," try these tips:
Use your grammar check tools for an extra set of eyes, but trust your instincts too. Remember, practice makes perfect! With time and effort, you'll master this common grammar challenge.
Mastering the Distinction Between Its and It's
Understanding the difference between the possessive word "its" and the shortened form of "it's" is one of the cornerstones of English grammar rules. Getting these two terms correct can be a challenge, but it's crucial for clear writing.
Think of "its" as the no-nonsense, possessive word showing ownership, like when you say, "The horse ran its race." It's a simple and direct way to indicate ownership without any frills.
On the other hand, "it's" functions as a friendly shortened form of either "it is" or "it has." This clever contraction squeezes two words into one for convenience, as seen in phrases like "It's sunny today" or "It's been ages!"
Failing to differentiate between these personal pronouns can and will obscure your message, so it's important to give them the spotlight during the proofreading process. Ensuring that their roles are clearly understood and that the sentence makes sense will immensely help your writing shine!

It's about slowing down, being present, and letting everyday wonders fill our hearts.
Living on a Fixed Income
Living on a limited fixed income in retirement has its fair share of challenges, but it's also an opportune time for thoughtful planning and a sense of peace.
It's all about managing your finances prudently, understanding your expenses, and making necessary adjustments. Be on the lookout for exclusive senior discounts and maybe even consider pursuing an enjoyable part-time job or hobby to supplement your income.
Optimizing Physical and Mental Wellbeing
Heading into retirement, it's all about feeling good inside and out.
Keeping active with things like walks, swimming, or senior-focused classes keeps our bodies in check. But let's not forget our minds: joining a book club, taking a class, or just being mindful can do wonders. Socializing, whether through volunteering or just spending time with loved ones, keeps loneliness at bay.
For a truly golden retirement, it's all about balancing our physical and mental health.
Creating a Retirement Bucket List
Retirement isn't just an ending; it's a fresh start to chase dreams and dive into passions we've shelved.
Why not craft a retirement bucket list? It's not just about grand adventures but also savoring life's simple moments. Maybe it's world travel, taking up painting, or giving back through volunteering. Whatever lights up our soul, big or small, it's about finding that sweet spot between dreams and doable.
Nurturing Mental Sharpness and Memory
To ensure happy retirees and nurture mental sharpness and memory during retirement, it is crucial to engage in activities that challenge the brain. Dive into puzzles, crosswords, or Sudoku to stimulate cognitive function and maintain mental agility.
Staying socially active by chatting with friends or joining clubs can have a positive impact on mental muscles, fostering a sense of belonging.
Incorporating physical exercise into daily routines, such as a brisk walk to get fresh air, or yoga, not only benefits the body but also contributes to cognitive health. It is important to remember that a well-balanced diet, packed with fruits, veggies, and healthy fats, is essential for optimal brain function.
Maintaining Independence in Retirement
Retirement isn't just a break; it's a fresh start. Staying active not only keeps us physically strong, but also enhances our self-esteem and promotes our independence. Maintaining good mental wellness is just as crucial, allowing us to explore various activities such as playing the guitar, diving into books, or conquering puzzles. Building social connections, whether through joining a club or volunteering, not only helps ward off loneliness but also contributes to our overall well-being.
It's also smart to think ahead and consider long-term care options or make necessary home tweaks to age comfortably, especially if health conditions may arise.
Exploring Part-Time Work or Entrepreneurship
Heading into retirement doesn't mean slowing down. For many, it's a chance to dive into new ventures, whether that's part-time work or starting a business.
A part-time gig offers routine and keeps skills sharp, plus it's a great way to meet new people and swap stories. On the other hand, entrepreneurship lets retirees turn passions into profits, setting their own pace and rules.
Finding Balance and Prioritizing Self-Care
Retirement is a time to focus on you. After years of hustle, it's a chance to balance body, mind, and soul. Keeping active boosts physical and mental health. Social ties give a sense of purpose and belonging, while diving into new hobbies or books keeps the mind sharp. And don’t forget the power of mindfulness – it's a game changer for inner peace.
Bottom line? Look after yourself, and retirement can be truly golden.
Learning New Skills and Knowledge
Whether you're picking up an instrument, learning a new language, or diving into digital, keeping your brain active has other benefits, as a study published in the Journal of Aging suggests. It sharpens the mind, and fills you with a sense of achievement. Local classes, online courses, or workshops can help you discover new passions and skills while also providing an opportunity for goal setting.
Caring for Aging Parents
Caring for aging parents is heartwarming, yet tough. As roles reverse, it's key to find a balance between safeguarding their health and respecting their independence.
Start by talking about their needs and wishes, exploring options like home care or assisted living. Stay clued up on their health, and lean on support networks to juggle your own responsibilities as well.
Despite challenges, there's beauty in these moments. Enjoy shared activities and create lasting memories. It's all about love, patience, and giving back to those who raised us.
Navigating Changes in Identity
For years, our job titles played a fundamental role in defining our identity. However, as older adults transition into retirement, it becomes crucial to explore our intrinsic worth beyond the confines of the 9-to-5 routine.
This can be both exhilarating and intimidating, as we navigate the journey of self-discovery. It involves not only revisiting old passions but also embracing new roles, such as those of mentorship or globe-trotting.
Although the process of reshaping our identity may not happen overnight, it is a natural part of the growth experience in retirement. It offers opportunities for rediscovering our true selves, cultivating positive emotions, and forming new connections with good friends.
Throughout this transformative phase, it is essential to keep a balanced perspective, allowing for exploration while staying grounded and open to change. By doing so, we can steer clear of dwelling on worst-case scenarios or succumbing to negative emotions. Retirement is ultimately a time of personal growth, exploration, and self-discovery.
Rediscovering Your Passions
Retirement is a golden ticket to rediscover what makes our heart sing. After years of hustle, now's our chance to dive into passions that got side-tracked, such as painting, playing guitar, gardening, or even globe-trotting with a strategic investment plan.
This chapter is bursting with opportunities that not only pass the time but also fuel our spirit and shape our identity outside work.
Preparing for Unexpected Events
Retirement is our well-earned pause button, but can still throw curveballs. To keep our peace of mind intact, it's smart to have a safety net.
A solid emergency fund, covering about six months of expenses, can be our financial lifesaver. And don't forget about insurance! Adjusting our coverage, especially for health and long-term health care costs, ensures we're set for any twists. Getting our legal documents in order, such as a will and power of attorney, guarantees our wishes are honored.
Maintaining a Strong Social Network
To experience a happier retirement, staying connected matters. Building friendships and keeping close ties with family adds joy and meaning to retirement.
Dive into local activities, meet people with shared interests, or even explore online communities tailored for retirees. Regular catch-ups, heartfelt chats, and showing gratitude to those around us can make all the difference. In this digital era, it's easier than ever to expand our circles.
By nurturing these bonds, we ensure laughter, support, and clear sense of purpose continue to enrich our lives.
Celebrating Milestones in Retirement
Retirement is a chance to celebrate life's big and small wins. As we step into this new phase, it's key to remember and cherish the achievements that made our journey special, whether it's career successes or personal victories. It's a time to be grateful for challenges overcome and the lessons learned.
Celebrate these milestones, whether with a big party, a dream trip, or quiet reflection. Let these celebrations inspire new adventures and joys in this golden chapter.
Downsizing and Simplifying
Embracing a simpler life can be incredibly liberating, especially as you step into retirement and prioritize your physical health.
It's more than just decluttering; it's about focusing on what brings genuine happiness and spending money wisely. Reevaluate your belongings and keep what resonates with your journey and new identity, helping to enhance your self-esteem along the way.
Letting go isn't about forgetting memories but making space for new experiences. Beyond physical items, release old grudges and embrace practices like meditation for inner peace.
Simplifying your life helps redirect your focus on what truly matters.
Exploring Different Senior Living Options
Choosing the right living space in retirement is easier than ever. Nowadays, there's truly something for everyone.
If you're active and want social buzz, independent living communities are great. They offer hassle-free living with plenty of fun activities. Need a bit of help daily? Assisted living maintains your independence but offers a helping hand. Memory care communities are tailored for those with cognitive challenges, ensuring safety and specialized care. And, if constant medical attention is needed, nursing homes are available.
Whatever the need, there's a comfortable spot for every retiree.
Promoting Intergenerational Connections
It's important to bridge the age gap with younger folks and engage in activities that promote intergenerational connections.
These ties are magical: elders share life stories and timeless wisdom, while the young bring fresh perspectives and tech know-how. It's a two-way street – seniors find purpose by mentoring, and youngsters gain valuable insights from lived experiences that contribute to their well-being.
Beyond simply exploring common interests, or even spending money on shared hobbies, these shared moments become a recipe for joy and purpose in retirement. Who knew that connecting with the younger generation could have such positive effects on our overall life satisfaction during our golden years?
Caring for Your Well-being
Nurturing your mind and heart is key to really enjoying a happy retirement. It's the perfect time to stay connected with loved ones and dive into community events to fend off loneliness. Keep your brain buzzing with reading, puzzles, or new hobbies. Gratitude and self-kindness can boost happiness. Also, get moving! Choosing a physical activity that you love, like dancing or hiking, will lift your spirits.
To make your retirement years enjoyable, you will need to focus on spending money wisely, setting clear goals, reaping physical benefits from engaging in moderate-intensity physical activity, and staying physically active.
Embrace passions, set boundaries, and make these years truly golden.

Its biodiversity is astonishing: imagine a place where you can spot a lazy sloth, hear the mysterious call of the quetzal, and watch a sea turtle nest – all in one day!
The 'Pura Vida' lifestyle is Costa Rica's signature vibe, translating to "pure life" but meaning so much more. It's about embracing life's ups and downs with a laid-back, positive outlook. From the friendly greetings on the streets to taking time to enjoy the simple pleasures, it's a mantra that resonates deeply in the Costa Rica culture. Living 'Pura Vida' means celebrating life passionately and gratefully, no matter the circumstances.
While many visit for its well-trodden paths, there’s a side of Costa Rica that waits to be discovered.
Riding the Waves: Surfing in Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a dream destination for surfers, boasting both Pacific and Caribbean coastlines. Popular spots include Tamarindo and Santa Teresa on the Pacific side. The waves cater to all levels, from novices seeking gentle breaks to seasoned surfers chasing big swells. With warm waters year-round and surf schools dotting the coast, it's no wonder Costa Rica is a surfer's paradise.
Volcano Adventures and Nature’s Wonders
Costa Rica is home to several active volcanoes, with Arenal being the most famous. Hiking trails surrounding these volcanoes offer awe-inspiring views and an opportunity to witness geothermal activity. While the thrill of seeing an active volcano up close is unparalleled, the surrounding national parks, like the Rincón de la Vieja, also offer hot springs, waterfalls, and diverse wildlife.
Above and Within the Clouds: Costa Rica’s Cloud Forests
Monteverde and Santa Elena are the crown jewels of Costa Rica's cloud forests. These mist-covered forests have a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere, with dew-drenched orchids and ferns, and the distant calls of exotic birds. Walking on hanging bridges gives you a canopy-level view, offering an experience that feels almost surreal.
Ziplining: Glide Over Treetops
For adrenaline junkies, Costa Rica's ziplining adventures are a must-try. Imagine soaring over treetops, rivers, and valleys, getting panoramic views that most only dream of. Locations like Monteverde and Manuel Antonio offer some of the best ziplining experiences, allowing you to immerse yourself in the country's lush landscapes from a unique perspective.
Costa Rica's biodiversity is legendary, with an array of animals that captivates the imagination:
This list merely scratches the surface. With countless birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, every day in Costa Rica is a wildlife adventure.
Costa Rica offers a range of experiences for all budgets. Whether you’re backpacking or seeking luxury, with a bit of planning, your money can stretch far. Remember to budget for ziplining and other exciting adventures!
Costa Rica has two seasons: dry (December-April) and rainy (May-November). If you love the beach, sunny days, and outdoor adventures like hiking or zip-lining, the dry season is for you. But it's also touristy, more expensive, and busier.
The rainy season, while wet, makes everything lush and green. It's great for photography, seeing waterfalls, and watching sea turtles nest. Plus, it's cheaper and less crowded. Rain usually comes in short bursts, so there's still plenty of time for fun.
Andrew suggests visitors explore both coasts of this beautiful country. Nature walks, even ones just minutes out of town, promise encounters with diverse wildlife. For those keen on venturing off the beaten path, a sturdy rental SUV comes highly recommended, especially during the dry season.
Definitely chat up the locals (also called Ticos); they're super friendly and have some great stories (you may even be invited to join them for an authentic meal!). If you're into a bit of thrill, give whitewater rafting a shot. Remember, you don't always need a guide to find the cool spots. There are some great hikes and waterfalls around that you can explore on your own.
Costa Rica prioritizes its visitors’ safety. Its robust healthcare system, particularly in major areas like San José, ensures high-quality medical services. It’s always a good idea for travelers to stay well-informed. Plan to consult with a travel health professional before your trip to discuss any recommended vaccinations.
There is the occasional mention of health risks, such as dengue fever, particularly in rural areas. Proper precautions, like using insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved clothing, and using nets while sleeping can significantly reduce mosquito bites, the primary mode of transmission for several viral diseases.
Drink bottled water and don’t forget to carry oral rehydration salts in case of unexpected stomach upsets!
Public Transport: Costa Rica boasts an extensive public transport system. Buses are the most common means of transportation and can take you almost anywhere. They're incredibly affordable, making them a favorite among budget travelers. The central hub for buses is San José, from where you can catch rides to even the most remote destinations.
Rental Cars: If you crave the freedom to explore on your own terms, renting a car is the way to go. Costa Rica offers diverse terrains, and an SUV can handle them all - from the sandy beaches to the hilly countryside. Do ensure you're familiar with Costa Rican law when driving and always have your passport and entry stamp handy for any random checks.
Domestic Flights: With several domestic airports, flying is an efficient way to get around, especially if you're short on time. Nature Air and Sansa are the primary carriers, connecting major city centres and popular tourist destinations.
Taxis & Ride-Sharing: Taxis are readily available in urban areas. However, always ensure they're licensed. For a more modern approach, apps like Uber operate in major cities like San José, providing a reliable and often cheaper alternative.
Hostels & Backpacker Lodges: Costa Rica has a plethora of hostels catering to backpackers. These establishments often have communal kitchens, shared dorm rooms, and vibrant atmospheres perfect for meeting fellow travelers. Some even offer free breakfasts, while others might have themed nights, ensuring there's never a dull moment.
Guesthouses & B&Bs: A step up from hostels, guesthouses, and B&Bs provide a more intimate setting. These are often family-run establishments, offering a personal touch to your stay. Breakfasts here can be a delightful affair, with home-cooked Costa Rican delicacies taking center stage.
Boutique Hotels: Scattered across Costa Rica are boutique hotels that provide a blend of luxury and local culture. With fewer rooms compared to chain hotels, they often boast unique designs, personalized services, and immersive experiences.
Eco-Lodges: Costa Rica's commitment to sustainability is evident in its array of eco-lodges. Nestled in nature, these lodges focus on minimal environmental impact, often running on renewable energy and offering organic meals. A stay here is not just a vacation but a lesson in sustainability.
Beach Resorts: Overlooking pristine coastlines, Costa Rica's beach resorts offer the ultimate relaxation. From private plunge pools to spa services and gourmet dining, they leave no stone unturned in ensuring a lavish experience.
Mountain Retreats: Perched atop hills and amidst dense forests, mountain retreats offer panoramic views and serene settings. Whether it's a yoga session overlooking the valley or a candle-lit dinner under the stars, these retreats redefine luxury.
All-Inclusive Resorts: For those who prefer everything under one roof, all-inclusive resorts are the answer. With meals, drinks, and activities all included in the package, all you need to do is relax and enjoy.
Costa Rica has amazing food influenced by its culture and nature. Their dishes use fresh ingredients from the land and seas. A must-eat is "gallo pinto", a rice and bean dish, often eaten for breakfast. You can also enjoy dishes like raw fish ceviche and shrimp with coconut rice. Don’t miss out on their famous coffee; maybe even take a tour to see how it's made! The fruit here is so fresh, and it grows everywhere.
One of the world’s leaders in conservation, Costa Rica’s commitment to the environment is commendable. Over a quarter of its land is protected, and the country is on its way to becoming carbon neutral soon.
Before you pack your bags, remember that Costa Rica isn't just a destination; it's an emotion. From its smiling Ticos to its magnificent nature, every moment here urges you to embrace the 'Pura Vida'. Whether you're zip-lining across forests, savoring local cuisine, or merely soaking in a sunset, let Costa Rica's spirit engulf you, and enjoy your vacation!

Use your imagination to celebrate the happy couple!
A beautiful bouquet of yellow roses symbolizes eternal love. You can also combine yellow chrysanthemums and red carnations to signify long life, love, and joy. Personalize it by adding flowers from their wedding bouquet. These flowers are loaded with symbolism and are a lovely reminder of their journey of love together.
A photo album or framed collage with pictures from their days together will capture their love story. If you'd like to make it even more personal, you could add in a handwritten note. If the couple has an old photo from their early years together, you could restore it and frame it in gold.
Photo gifts are a sentimental way of sharing their love story that will be appreciated and treasured for years to come.
Another way to keep it personal is by compiling a playlist of meaningful songs from their journey together - music that marked important milestones or reminds them of special moments. They can relive their first dance from their special day while dancing down memory lane together.
Infinity bracelets with gemstones and their wedding date signify endless love. A pendant necklace with their birthstones, symbolizes their shared life. Bracelets with custom charms can reflect important events or interests. Matching rings with their names or a special message can symbolize their forever bond.
Jewelry is a timeless golden wedding anniversary gift that is an everyday reminder of their love.
Consider a sentimental quote etched on a crystal vase, or their initials etched on fine wine glasses, allowing them to toast to their many years of love. For the adventurous couple, a globe etched with their favorite destinations becomes a cherished keepsake of their wanderlust.
Personalized gift baskets, celebrating fifty years of love, are an incredibly thoughtful and meaningful way to commemorate a golden wedding anniversary. We've done a 'gold themed' gift basket for our parents, filled with all things golden or with 'gold' in its name (We even included a Yukon Gold potato in there, wrapped in gold foil!). Consider including their favorite gourmet food, a bottle of their special wine, or even select items linked to their beloved hobbies.
By personalizing the gift basket to align perfectly with their interests, you ensure that this anniversary present is both incredibly special and utterly unforgettable for the married couple.
If you're looking for a wedding anniversary gift for your wife, writing love letters is a timeless, romantic act that goes beyond quick texts or emails. It's the perfect opportunity to express deep emotions and commemorate shared experiences over 50 years of marriage, making it one of the ultimate golden anniversary gifts. It's an intimate gesture, surpassing the allure of modern gifts and grand gestures.
Personalized gifts can also complement these love letters, adding an extra touch of sentimentality to the already cherished golden wedding anniversary.
Marking a 50th anniversary isn't just about big parties and gifts. It's also a great chance to give back.
Donations to charities that are meaningful to the couple can make a lasting impact. This could be to a children's charity, a local food bank, or an education fund. Such acts of giving back celebrate the couple's journey and compassion and make a truly meaningful gift, with a far-reaching impact.
For a 50th wedding anniversary, using gold in the decor makes things feel extra special and decadent.
Think golden tablecloths, centerpieces, chair covers, and favor boxes. Use golden fairy lights for a soft glow, and make a photo wall with gold frames to share the couple's journey.
The gold theme brings a sparkle to the event and makes the celebration unforgettable.
Imagine a golden cake with caramel icing, gold-colored macarons with exciting fillings, and glittery popcorn balls. Offer fresh croissants with golden jams, like apricot or peach. Don't forget golden champagne sprinkled with edible gold dust. These delicious treats make the celebration special and memorable.
Consider personalized champagne sets for a toast, or make a custom cocktail that reflects the couple's journey over the past 50 years. Or, host a wine tasting with wines from each decade of their marriage, allowing them to reminisce about moments that have stood the test of time and reflect on their cherished wedding vows. These activities honour the couple's enduring love story, celebrating not just their milestone 50th wedding anniversary but also the love they have shared in their everyday life.
Spice up a 50-year anniversary with popular games from when the couple first met for a trip down memory lane. For an outdoor party, croquet, horseshoes or bocce ball keep guests engaged and laughter going. Set up a photo booth with props to recreate their wedding photo. Host a mini-Olympics with classic games and award prizes.
These fun activities will make the party memorable and celebrate a half-century of love.
Families are key to a successful, lasting marriage. They're a couple's rock through good times and bad, providing love and support. When celebrating a 50-year marriage, the presence of family, including children and grandchildren, symbolizes the continuation of traditions and values. The couple's enduring love inspires their family, and the family's support strengthens the couple. A family vacation such as a cruise is a great way to celebrate the grandparents' golden wedding anniversary.
Couples who've reached their 50th anniversary, known as golden couples, have years of relationship wisdom to share with their loved ones. They highlight the importance of honest communication, truly understanding each other. They emphasize being friends, enjoying shared interests and experiences. They've learned to compromise, balancing individual desires with shared goals. And they value celebrating love and expressing gratitude through simple gestures.
Celebrating 50 years of marriage calls for special traditions. Rings are often exchanged again, symbolizing ongoing love and commitment. Some couples renew their vows, reflecting on their journey so far. A toast with loved ones, to congratulate and wish them well, is also common.
However the 50th anniversary is celebrated, it should be a meaningful reflection of their life that they share together.
Celebrating at home allows the couple to cherish their milestone in a cozy, personal environment. To mark a 50th wedding anniversary, create a romantic setting at home. Dim the lights, light scented candles, and spread rose petals to evoke intimacy and nostalgia. Play their favorite love songs and arrange a special dinner with their finest china. Make room for them to dance to a song meaningful to their relationship and give them privacy to enjoy this special moment.
Want to surprise a special couple for their 50th anniversary? Plan a party at a place they love, decorate it in a gold theme, and surprise them with a photo montage or video of well-wishes from loved ones. Give a speech on their achievements and serve their favorite foods. Add a unique touch with live entertainment featuring their favorite songs.
Sending a heartfelt message to a couple celebrating their 50th anniversary is a thoughtful way to thank them for inspiring everyone with their remarkable love story, which has stood the test of time. Share memories that highlight the joyous moments they have experienced together, and acknowledge the couple's strength and the enduring values they have imparted upon others. Wish them many more years of happiness, love, and fulfillment as they continue their incredible journey together.
Renewing vows after 50 years is a beautiful celebration of lasting love and commitment. It's a chance for a couple to remember their past, enjoy their present, and get excited for their future. It also inspires others as it shows that love can last and grow stronger with time. Renewing vows can be an intimate celebration, between just husband and wife, or can include all of their friends and family for a big party.
In a momentous 50-year marriage, both friends and family members play an integral part in shaping the journey. It's important to show gratitude towards these people during the golden anniversary celebrations. This could involve writing sincere words of appreciation, acknowledging their unwavering contributions and recognizing them as an invaluable element of the couple's extraordinary lifelong love story.
Mark a fifty-year wedding anniversary with a special date night. Maybe recreate the golden couple's first wedding day or have a candlelit dinner at home with their favorite music and food. You could plan a trip to a place they love or have always wanted to visit, or give them tickets to a sporting event they enjoy.
Whatever thoughtful presents or best gifts you choose, the aim is to let them spend time together, cherishing their fifty-year journey of love and togetherness.
Celebrating 50 years of marriage is huge. It's not easy, but it's totally worth it. To commemorate this significant milestone, you could create a time capsule full of keepsakes and family mementos. Involving the couple in putting the capsule together helps them relive these special moments and also allows future generations to see these memories.
A 50th anniversary isn't just a time to look back at a half-century together, but also to look ahead. It's a chance for couples to set new goals, whether that's traveling, taking up hobbies, or deepening relationships. It's a time to pursue dreams that may have been on hold.
By setting and reaching for these new goals together, couples can continue to strengthen their bond, celebrate their love, and face new challenges head on.
Balancing 'me time' and 'us time' is key to a lasting relationship. After 50 years, couples can reflect on this by gifting experiences for their individual hobbies and shared interests. Personal growth retreats or a romantic getaway are thoughtful gifts.
This balance fosters personal fulfillment and strengthens their bond, showing that they honor their unique identities within their union even after half a century.
In a world where love sometimes feels short-lived, we look to long-lasting marriages for hope. Stories like Bob and Barb, who navigated adulthood and parenting together inspire us. These 50-year unions remind us that love is worth fighting for; a journey full of ups and downs, but always filled with commitment. They give us hope that true love really can conquer all.
No Story Lost offers the perfect gift for couples on their golden anniversary. Select one of the three packages that we offer (The Anthology and The Odyssey are the most popular for couples) and we will do the rest! We will even provide a card for you to send the happy couple on their special day. From there, we will collect their stories, both from childhood and their years together and arrange them into a beautiful coffee table book that can be cherished forever.

We wanted to follow up on a previous post about our experience on Dragons' Den from September 2022. We learned a lot from our time in the Den and have so much respect for the Dragons, that we wanted to dedicate a post just for them!
To put it simply, the cast of Dragons' Den is a showstopper group that entertains us all. Each week when we tune into CBC, we are rewarded with a great show. This is due in large part to the amazing cast.
In the most current season, Arlene offers unparalleled wit and wisdom. Manjit wins hearts with her infectious energy, Michele cuts through fluff with her no-nonsense attitude, Vincenzo's fiery passion lights up the Den, while Wes' business savvy and Robert's approachable style round out the cast.
Together, the Dragons not only challenge each other and the entrepreneurs who step into the Den but they also make for great TV.
Dragon's Den has featured a rotating cast of Dragons throughout its seasons, each bringing their unique expertise and money to the table. As some Dragons end their tenure on the show, others join the team, bringing fresh perspectives and different career experiences. Whenever a Dragon's departure is announced, it becomes a hot topic on the show's website and across social media. Former memorable Dragons include Jim Treliving, Michael Wekerle, and Jennifer Wood. A new Dragon will accept the challenge of making smart cash deals on air, often leading to successful ventures. Every change in the cast brings a new dynamic to the show, keeping CBC audiences engaged season after season.
Arlene Dickinson, a seasoned marketing guru and one of the show's longest-standing Dragons, has consistently helped numerous firms succeed in tough and competitive markets, week after week.
Manjit Minhas, an influential figure in the alcohol business and celebrated as one of Canada's most accomplished young entrepreneurs, brings valuable experience to the panel.
Michelle Romanow, a young tech whiz, adds a fresh and innovative perspective to the panel with her successful startup experiences.
Vincent Guzzo, known as the "Cinema King" with his large chain of movie theatres is the guy who stands out with his blunt comments and flashy fashion sense.
Wes Hall helps companies make big decisions. He brings his knack for spotting good opportunities and his drive to succeed, shaped by his journey from humble beginnings to business success.
Robert Herjavec started his career out of his basement and worked his way up to become a huge player in the cybersecurity market. He's known for his friendly personality, sharp business sense, and willingness to invest money in new tech ideas.
Together, they offer hard-hitting entertainment to fans and serve as influential role models for budding entrepreneurs.
This isn't just about profit for the Dragons; with each deal that they make, they genuinely care about nurturing new business talent. They provide crucial advice and sometimes tough love, helping shape the future of Canadian business.
The true heart and soul of Dragons' Den happens after the cameras stop rolling. The cast's dedication to fostering entrepreneurship and building relationships is evident in the success stories that have come out of the 17 seasons.
Getting on Dragons' Den is quite a journey - we know first-hand!
First, budding entrepreneurs audition, presenting their business idea to the casting team. They are looking for unique, market-ready ideas and people who can handle tough questions from the Dragons. Thousands apply, but only a few make the cut.
Next, selected applicants get an in-person interview. Here, the team digs deeper into their venture and checks if they're as passionate and authentic as they seem.
These entrepreneurs then give a three-minute pitch to the show's producers. The executive producer follows this simple rule: it's not just about convincing investors; they also need to be good for television.
Dragons' Den is more than just a TV show; it's a roller coaster of nerves, fun, and respect that only those in the Den can truly understand.
Despite stiff competition for the top deals, the Dragons' Den cast shares a deep bond off-camera. They support each other with their shared entrepreneurial experiences, knowledge and expertise. The drama in the Den usually ends after the cameras stop rolling.
Before you see the pitches on TV, the Dragons have spent hours of prep to go through each one. The cast reviews each of the businesses in great detail so that they can ask the important questions once the cameras start rolling.
Though the pitches seem smooth on screen, they're actually the product of extremely skilled editing. Behind the scenes, the crew condenses long, intense question sessions into the suspenseful segments that we've come to know and love, highlighting the intensity of the moment and the pressure entrepreneurs face.
The wealthy investors in the Dragons Den cast are seasoned entrepreneurs with their own distinct investment styles.
Manjit Minhas, a leader in the beverage industry, likes to invest in unique, top-quality products with a strong market footprint. Arlene Dickinson, a marketing whiz, usually backs companies with creative marketing and strong branding. Michele Romanow focuses on startups disrupting old-school industries with innovative technology. Wes Hall partners with entrepreneurs who demonstrate strong leadership, and innovative ideas with potential for high returns. Vincent Guzzo will typically invest in entrepreneurs who pitch unique ideas, a strong business plan, and a passion for their industry. Robert Herjavec prefers to invest in driven, passionate entrepreneurs with unique, scalable businesses in the tech sector.
Each cast member brings their own expertise to the Den, giving entrepreneurs a chance to secure investment in their venture and take their company to the next level.
When they aren't listening to companies pitch their next big idea, the cast of Dragons Den is busy in the both business and celebrity world. Michele Romanow, co-founder of the innovative fintech company Clearbanc, revolutionizes how small businesses get funding. She's a pioneering force in the startup community and a regular on the speaking circuit. Arlene Dickinson is a familiar face, author, and sought-after speaker, sharing her entrepreneurial insights across the country.
These Dragons aren't just in the Den to do deals, they're influencing Canadian business, sharing their wisdom, and inspiring future entrepreneurs.
Dragons' Den is filled with surprising, unscripted moments that keep us watching, season after season. Like when Jim Treliving called his son from the Den for his opinion in Season 8 - the owners of RollerGard were there to pitch their skate guard company. Jim called his son, Brad (who is big in the hockey world), to ask if he thought he should invest. Brad gave Victor a ringing endorsement and in the end, Jim offered RollerGard a deal.
Behind the scenes, Manjit Minhas, a trailblazer in the beverage industry, shatters stereotypes as a wildly successful female in a traditionally male-dominated field. Not only does she promote diversity through her business, but she also takes an active role in mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs, both on and off the set (including us!).
The Dragons may seem like hard-nosed negotiators on TV, strategically analyzing each pitch line by line, but behind the scenes, they are amazing people, with fascinating lives and values that shape their business and personal journeys.
Off-camera, Dragons' Den has many heartwarming stories. One of the fascinating behind-the-scenes tales involves Arlene Dickinson, known as the "Dragon with a Heart." Once, during one of the show's episodes, hosted by Dianne Buckner, a nervous entrepreneur, struggled with their pitch. Arlene, sensed their unease, and stepped in with encouraging words, even sharing her own early business struggles. Not only did this help the entrepreneur pitch with confidence, it showed Arlene's sincere desire to help others.
While they're shrewd investors, Dragons like Arlene often playing the role of mentors too, focused on fostering creativity. These inspiring stories behind the scenes show that while Dragons might be tough in negotiations, they genuinely care about the entrepreneurs' success and growth.
Being on Dragons' Den can be scary, but it's often a game changer for entrepreneurs - we call this the Dragon's Den Effect. The exposure that being on the CBC can offer is a real catapult and opens so many doors for mentoring and partnerships. We speak from experience!
A great partnership story that was featured on Dragon's Den in Season 12 is the mattress company, Endy. When they came to pitch their business in the Den, Arlene, Michelle, and Joe Mimran loved what they saw. They offered them a deal and the company has since skyrocketed. They sold to Sleep Country Canada for $89 million.
Dragons' Den is not just another CBC reality TV show. Since 2006, it has provided budding entrepreneurs, including women, with a unique opportunity to pitch their big business ideas, and has inspired people all over Canada.
The Dragons, including former Dragons Kevin O'Leary, Michael Wekerle, and Lane Merrifield, have become icons in the business world. It's difficult to find anyone in Canada who doesn't know about the show. Dianne Buckner has been a steadfast host throughout the years, introducing each pitch with engaging back stories and detail.
The huge influence of Dragons' Den has inspired many spin-offs, entertaining audiences around the world. As the show continues, its legacy of inspiring creativity and driving new business ideas will serve as a powerful measure of its enduring impact and innovation in the television industry.
The Dragons have shown us that if you want to succeed in the tough world of entrepreneurship, you need to be prepared to sell your expertise. This includes knowing your market, financials, and competitors inside out. You also need to know who you're pitching to and adjust your pitch to suit their interests and experience.
Clear communication is key. If you can't explain your venture simply and directly, you could lose out on potential partnerships. It's also important to remember that not every pitch is going to result in a deal. You need to be ready to face rejection and take it as a chance to grow.
The Dragons have all been there before and are eager to share their wisdom with others. If you're stepping into the world with your business ideas, remember the Dragons' lessons: be well-prepared, flexible, and resilient to the competition you may face in the tough world of entrepreneurship.
We contacted Manjit's family and worked with her Dad to create a beautiful coffee table book filled with his life stories. When we presented the book to her during our pitch, she cried happy tears (the only time she's ever cried on Dragons' Den!)! It was a touching surprise for her and she will be able to cherish her father's memories forever. If you would like to purchase a book for a loved one or yourself, check out the packages that we offer and choose the one that will be the best fit for you and your family.

Below are some famous quotes by some renowned people. At No Story Lost, we have also come across some pretty interesting quotes by everyday people. Take a look at some of our favourite stories and see if any quotes from them compare to the ones below!
In the big picture of life, it's not just about monotonously getting through each day. What really matters are those incredible moments that make us feel amazed and thankful. Like when you see a beautiful sunset or stand on a majestic mountain, take a deep breath and feel a sense of wonder.
This quote not only applies to nature; it's also about the special connections we have with others. A kind gesture from a stranger or a heart-to-heart talk with someone you love can touch your heart deeply.
It also applies to personal achievements, such precious feelings like graduating or getting a promotion, that show how capable we are. These are the moments that truly make life meaningful, and they are what we should cherish and seek out.
Our biggest obstacle is often our own fear and self-doubt. We may see challenges or dreams as impossible because we're scared to fail or lack the real courage to start.
If we take a leap and go for those seemingly impossible things, we discover our true potential and amazing possibilities. Imagine if famous people like Thomas Edison or Marie Curie let fear hold them back; we wouldn't have their inventions and discoveries. They showed us that our limits are self-imposed.
Embracing uncertainty and challenges leads to personal growth and incredible achievements. Even if the result isn't what we expected, the journey shapes us and opens new, life-answering opportunities.
Tony Robbins encourages us to embrace the impossible, overcome fears in our own life, and spark innovation, personal growth, and societal progress. This is all that makes life interesting.
Oprah Winfrey's inspiring words remind us to break free from society's expectations and follow the life of our dreams. To be a truly free human requires forging our own path.

Following our dreams leads to self-discovery, resilience, and living a life filled with passion and purpose.
Nowadays people often feel pressured to achieve success quickly. But Confucius reminds us that the speed of progress isn't as important as the determination to keep moving forward.
Challenges and setbacks are normal, but such stuff shouldn't deter us from our goals. These moments of struggle reveal our true character. Progress might seem slow, but it's vital to stay patient and persistent. Each small step counts and helps us grow.
Slow and steady wins the race. It's about showing up consistently and putting in the effort.
These wise words remind us to seize life's opportunities. Imagine looking back in the future; will you regret not taking chances and pursuing your dreams?
Mark Twain says fear of failure shouldn't stop us. It's the missed chances that will haunt us later (does this remind anyone else of a Wayne Gretzky quote?). There is no greater agony than having regrets based on the fear of failure.
To get the most out of life, we need to take risks and step out of our comfort zones. No matter what it is, it's better to try and fail than to regret not trying.
Embrace every opportunity and create your own way to a life filled with purpose and beautiful memories. Let these words guide you to live life to the fullest without regrets.
This simple phrase holds a timeless truth that applies to all fields. When you genuinely love your work, passion becomes your driving force. It motivates your creativity, dedication, and perseverance. Your enthusiasm turns ordinary tasks into extraordinary achievements. It truly is a tremendous thing.
With love for your work, you face challenges eagerly and seek innovative solutions. Setbacks become opportunities for growth. This love also inspires others around you, creating a positive environment that fosters collaboration and success.
Loving your work sparks continuous learning and improvement, leading to personal and professional triumph. When you fall asleep at the end of the day, you should do so feeling fulfilled and purposeful.
This is one of our favourite literary quotes. In our lives, we enjoy many moments that bring us joy and growth, and make us laugh forever. But eventually, everything comes to an end, and we may feel sad or nostalgic.
Dr. Seuss reminds us to see it differently. Instead of living in half agony, we should focus on the happiness those moments once brought us. Like a sunrise after a dark night, every experience becomes a cherished memory in our life's untold story.
We spend time making memories, laughing, loving, exploring, and learning. When things end, we can choose to remember waking moments and the joy and growth they brought.
By shifting our focus, we find solace in the extraordinary experiences we've had and can embrace each ending with a smile.
We often feel pressured to live up to other people's expectations, but Steve Jobs knew that to be truly happy, we need to live our own lives, with our own goals and purpose.
Even if it means going against the norm, we should go after our passions and follow our dreams. We become truly fulfilled when we forge our own paths and learn from these experiences.
By letting go of fear and societal pressure, we unlock our creativity and potential. Time is precious, so let's make conscious choices and embrace our unique selves.
To this day, Abraham Lincoln's wisdom still holds true. Why wait for life to happen to us, when we can go out there and make things happen, the way we want?
We need to be active participants in our lives and the world around us. This helps us have a better understanding of what's going on in the present.
Creating the future requires innovative thinking and pushing boundaries. Take a look at where you want life to go and take the steps to make it happen.
By leading change, embracing resilience, and staying committed to our vision, we can mold the future to align with our values and reach our full potential.
These wise words remind us that true happiness is in our hands. It comes from choosing positivity, personal growth, and meaningful connections.
To be perfectly happy, we should start by realizing it comes from within. Being grateful for what we have can shift our focus away from what's missing. Embracing challenges and learning from failures add depth to our lives. Pursuing our passions and seeking new experiences lead to fulfillment.
These powerful words from Albert Camus remind us of our strength and determination, even in tough times.
Like a hidden summer inside us, we can find hope and resilience during the coldest and darkest moments. Winter may bring sadness and despair, but we have an invincible summer within us, waiting to bring memories warm and filled with light to our lives.
Even when life gets tough, we can tap into this inner strength and inspire others. By nurturing our indomitable summer, we learn to persevere, find joy in small things, and hold onto half hope. Our happiness a definitely worth fighting for.
Doubt has always held us back from success and happiness. Our inner voice questions our abilities and worth, making us uncertain about our aspirations.
As Roosevelt suggests, these doubts limit our future. Self-doubt might stop us from starting a business, pursuing our passions, or improving ourselves.
To break free from doubt's grip, we need to believe in our abilities and face our worries. Replacing doubt with confidence and determination allows us to achieve greatness and unleash our creativity.
Roosevelt's words remind us to take action, push through uncertainty, and embrace a future filled with possibilities.
Each one of us has the power to bring about real change. We don't need to wait for leaders to show us what to do, or big institutions to formalize action. A small act of kindness, empathy and compassion toward others can make a real difference. This is something that Mother Teresa demonstrated throughout her whole life.
Let's start by helping those around us. By taking action ourselves, we essentially become leaders and inspire others to do the same. No act of kindness is too small, and a bunch of small actions, combined together, make a significant impact.
In a world that seeks instant gratification and perfection, these words remind us that success and failure are not the be all, end all. As the British Prime Minister during World War II, Winston Churchill inspired an entire nation, and all the world, to live with courage and continue forward.
Once we have the good fortune to experience success, we should stay motivated to keep pushing forward. Success is something that will fade surprisingly quickly if we sit back and do nothing.
Along the same substance, failure is not a permanent setback. This is a time to learn and grow. It takes courage to face challenges and keep going despite obstacles. If you give up when you experience a bump in the road, you will rarely win in the end.
Success and failure are both part of a continuous journey of improvement and resilience. The real measure of success is our determination to keep moving forward, embracing new challenges, and learning from every experience along the way.
This quote highlights the importance of personal responsibility and mindset. While we can't control everything that happens, we can control how we respond.
Setbacks and difficulties are a natural part of life. It may seem at times that the universe conspires against us, but our reactions to these challenges can make all the difference. By adopting a positive outlook and seeing obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow, we can overcome challenges and unlock our inner potential.
Our reactions shape our journey, allowing us to navigate life's ups and downs and embrace endless possibilities. Let us be mindful of our responses, resilient in the face of adversity, and empowered to create a little life of purpose and fulfillment.
This quote reminds us of the importance of patience and long-term thinking. Like the analogy of a tree, success and growth take time and dedication.
Sometimes we have regret and dwell on the past. This ends up holding us back even more than the present controls. We need to accept that what's done is done, and continue forward.
It's never too late to take action and work toward our goals.
It's not enough to just hope and wish that things could be different. If you want to see change, you have to be the driving force behind it. You need to live these values and behaviours that you want to see from the world.
We need to take responsibility for our actions and beliefs, instead of waiting on others to make a difference. By embodying equality, peace, justice, and compassion, we can inspire those around and that's when real change happens.
Gandhi's wisdom reminds us that to change the world, but not your hope, we must start within ourselves and use our independent will to become the change we want to see.
In the journey of self-discovery, we often grapple with whether to conform to existing identities or carve out our own paths.
George Bernard Shaw encourages us to find true fulfillment by actively creating and defining ourselves. He believes life is an opportunity to reinvent ourselves, not just a quest for self-discovery.
This perspective rejects predefined roles and urges us to break free from societal norms and self-doubt through personal growth and adaptation. Embracing self-creation requires courage as we face uncertainties and make choices that may differ from the norm. It empowers us to be the architects of our lives, shaping our personalities and abilities like clay.
There is no guidebook for self-creation. We just need to start to take action in order to become our best selves. This will inspire others to create their own paths and encourage individuality.
Ralph Waldo Emerson's famous saying reminds us who'll decide the outcome of our own lives. We need to take charge of our destiny and not let the happenings of life dictate who we become.
Today, more than ever, we have more freedom to explore different possibilities and work on improving our lives. To do this, we need to be self-aware, have knowledge of the world around us and be courageous in the way we live our lives.
Take life one day at a time. Set both small and big goals and commit to continually becoming a better version of yourself.
Theodore Roosevelt's words highlight the importance of belief in achieving success.
We are the biggest deciding factor in whether we reach our goals or not. Believing in ourselves gives us the motivation and purpose to overcome challenges and make progress. It empowers us to take risks and persist through tough times, even when the path shows certain defeat.
Belief is not just wishful thinking; it comes from understanding our strengths and weaknesses and wanting to always be better. When we believe in ourselves, we become truly unstoppable!
Lennon's statement reminds us that wisdom comes from being curious, not from being certain about everything. Embracing our curiosity and acknowledging our limitations leads to intellectual growth and a thirst for knowledge.
It reminds us that true understanding often thrives in the realm of uncertainty, where curiosity drives us to explore life's mysteries. It encourages us to appreciate the beauty of constant learning, understanding that the more we discover, the more we realize how much there is still to learn.
Eleanor Roosevelt's quote emphasizes the importance of holding onto our dreams.
Dreams allow us to see a world that we want, despite the uncertainties and challenges. When we believe in these dreams, it gives all the lives meaning and pushes us to try to make them a reality.
When we have dreams, we can break free from limitations, explore new possibilities, and challenge the norms. They give us confidence to step out of our comfort zones and reach our full potential.
Our dreams give us hope during tough times and attract opportunities and like-minded individuals into our lives. The future belongs to those who truly believe in their dreams and are willing to pursue them with determination and perseverance.
If everyone put others before themselves, what a wonderful world it would be!
This quote challenges us to take care care of others. When we do this, we then understand the true meaning of life. Being kind and serving others not only helps those around us, but it also helps our own self, by giving our lives purpose and meaning.
We all need to look in the mirror to understand our privilege. Once we do this, we can work towards creating a world which is fair for everyone. We can use our voices to bring about positive change in the world around us.
We sometimes get so overwhelmed by the size of a task or overthink something so much that we don't end up doing anything. This quote reminds us that the most important thing when starting something new is to take that first step. Whether it's starting a new job, launching a business, or moving to a new country, the first step is often the most challenging.
We need to step out of our comfort zones and get started. Once we take that first step, we need to continue taking steps forward - big or small. The key is to focus on making progress rather than seeking perfection. Every step forward brings us closer to our goals.
Mahatma Gandhi's famous quote, "Live as if you were to die tomorrow," reminds us to enjoy each day and appreciate our relationships, intimate friends and experiences. We need to be present and grateful for every moment. Too often, we are so busy dying that we forget how to truly live.
His words, "Learn as if you were to live forever," inspire us to stay curious and pursue knowledge throughout our lives. This mindset opens up endless possibilities for personal growth and intellectual enlightenment.
Gandhi's wisdom encourages us to embrace life fully and continuously strive for progress and self-improvement.
Live a Good Life
Our world is full of great quotes and human wisdom that breaks us free from past controls and pushes us forward. We have a lot to learn from not only these famous words, but also from the words of ordinary people in our lives.
There are some common themes from these quotes: self-discovery, stepping out of our comfort zones, courage and taking action.
Self-discovery involves reflecting on our thoughts, feelings, and experiences to understand who we really all. It's taking a look at the untold story inside our lives and confronting our fears.
When we embrace our passions, and use courage to go after our dreams, we live a life with purpose and contentment.
We hope these quotes have inspired you to live a good life and continually strive for improvement.
From his early years in Lebanon to his journey to the United States, his impressive medical career, and his work as a chaplain, Dr. Mudawwar has lived an incredible life.
It is such a privilege to have captured his stories in his memoir book. We hope his family will treasure this life story book!

Both No Story Lost and Story Terrace have emerged as growing leaders in this field, offering individuals the opportunity to record beautiful memoirs about their lives.
This article will look at the similarities and differences between each company. We both have a goal of preserving precious memories for our customers, but our approaches, price points, and final products are different. Which company you choose to share your legacy with will depend on your goals, budget, and personal preferences.
Key Features of No Story Lost
No Story Lost makes it easy for people to record their life stories. From the moment the customer visits our website, they are guided through the process, from start to finish. A comprehensive FAQ page, web chat, and the option to arrange a call with a team member before purchasing all provide the customer with confidence and peace of mind.
What sets No Story Lost apart is the simplicity and efficiency of our approach. Customers can move from 'hello' to hardcover, in as little as 8 weeks. This makes it a great option for people where time is of the essence, such as someone who has recently been diagnosed with dementia. A series of phone or video interviews can take place relatively quickly, according to the storyteller's schedule. Our interviewers and writers are flexible and able to accommodate different schedules and time zones.
In terms of the interview approach, questions are asked in a genuine and heartfelt manner. These questions delve into not only the triumphs and milestones but also gently go into the hardships and challenges that are a part of everyone's story.
No Story Lost's team of experienced interviewers brings out the emotions and feelings of the storyteller. The stories are written in the voice of the storyteller, ensuring that their loved ones can hear their voice as they're reading the memoir.
After the writers create the manuscript, the customer is able to provide edits, add pictures and descriptive elements, and any other feedback to ensure that the finished copy is exactly what they envisioned. No Story Lost has a Happy Tears Guarantee, where if you don't feel like you could cry happy tears while reading the book, we will work with you until you do or will refund your money.
The end result is a beautiful, custom coffee table book that is designed to preserve your cherished memories for future generations.
Key Features of Story Terrace
With a talented network of writers, Story Terrace has the ability to match customers with writers who can accurately, authentically, and engagingly communicate their stories.
An editor is assigned to each book, who will explain the process and outline the interviewing and writing schedule. They also review and polish the written draft to ensure it is meticulous and engaging. The process from start to finish usually takes around 7 months.
Photos are used to bring these memoirs to life. The storyteller provides photos for the book, based on the stories within. The Story Terrace team then creates distinctive layouts to include these pictures, creating a beautiful book that ties images to the words on the pages.
Process and Workflow Comparison
No Story Lost offers a user-friendly web platform, where customers purchase a package and work with our project coordinator and writer to bring their memoir to life. Our writer conducts interviews to delve into the customer's life experiences, creating a captivating narrative in the storyteller's voice. Interviews typically are one hour in length, and range from between 2 and 6 interviews, depending on the book package selected. These are conducted via phone or video, in the comfort of the storyteller's home. Additional interviews are available for purchase. With the flexibility of our interviewers, these interviews can either be shortened or lengthened, depending on the storyteller's time and stamina. After the interviews are complete, our writer develops a manuscript for the storyteller to review and edit. The storyteller will provide their photos and can review the layout and design before the book goes to print. The entire process, from start to finish, usually takes between 2 and 3 months.
With Story Terrance, skilled writers conduct in-depth interviews to capture the essence of the individual's life. Once a package is purchased, an editor is assigned to guide you through the process. They will match the storyteller with a writer based on their goals, location, experiences, and vision. Interviews are then conducted either in person, by phone or video and are typically 2 hours in length. Packages with Story Terrace range from between 4 and 10 hours of interview time. Like No Story Lost, the customer will provide the photos that they wish to include in the book and Story Terrace will beautifully arrange these in the book. The editor will then work with the storyteller to review and edit the book before printing.
Both services ensure a seamless and caring experience, allowing customers to preserve their cherished memories in a way that suits their preferences and needs.
Quality and Professionalism
No Story Lost and Story Terrace are both committed to creating well-written memoirs that families can cherish forever.
No Story Lost's team of writers conduct interviews and write their stories in a way that captures the storyteller's voice. As you read a No Story Lost book, you should be able to hear the storyteller's own voice in the pages.
Story Terrace uses ghostwriters to create professionally-written memoirs that are comparable to autobiographies that you would find in a bookstore.
Both companies emphasize collaboration between the storyteller and the writer to ensure the stories are told in a way that aligns with the customer's vision. The end result is a beautiful, high-quality coffee table book that families can cherish for generations.
Customization Options
No Story Lost works with the storyteller to make the experience as flexible as possible. Interviews are conducted either by phone or video call, and the storyteller is able to choose the length, frequency, and location of their interviews. Additional photos or interviews can be added after a package is purchased, allowing the customer control over their experience.
Story Terrace matches the writer with the storyteller, based on experiences and location. Like No Story Lost, the storyteller can choose the number of interviews and length of the final product. Additional interviews and photos are able to be purchased if the storyteller feels that this is necessary.
Pricing Structure
This is one of the bigger differences between the two companies. Both offer a highly professional service and product, but the pricing is an important consideration when making your decision.
No Story Lost offers simple packages based on interview length and the number of pages and photos, making it more affordable for storytellers to choose what suits them best. The finished product is a well-crafted story, told in the voice of the storyteller.
Story Terrace's premium prices reflect their more professional storytelling approach, appealing to individuals seeking a more sophisticated memoir. The type of package selected will determine the calibre of writer that is assigned to your project. Junior Writers do not have as much professional experience, Senior Writers have published work and Critically Acclaimed Writers have extensive published materials. Their packages include a dedicated session with an editor to polish up the book into a professionally finished product. Because the price point of a Story Terrace book is much higher, they provide installment payment plans for their customers.
Success Stories and Testimonials
No Story Lost and Story Terrace have many heartwarming success stories and glowing reviews from clients who have experienced their life story capture and storytelling services. These touching anecdotes and examples demonstrate how these companies have skillfully preserved and immortalized personal histories all over the world. Thousands of people have trusted No Story Lost and Story Terrace to preserve their cherished memories, celebrate their achievements, and pass on their legacies.
Customer Support and Communication
No Story Lost provides web chats and phone consultations prior to making a decision. Once a package has been purchased, a project coordinator is assigned to guide the storyteller and their family through the entire process. There is a high degree of collaboration between the project coordinator, storyteller, and writer, ensuring open communication.
Story Terrace provides a dedicated editor for each story. This person manages the entire process, ensuring communication between all parties. Client feedback is encouraged throughout all aspects of the project. Story Terrace offers a free consultation prior to purchase as well.

Ever dream about leaving a safety net for your kids and grandkids? One that can keep them afloat no matter what life throws at them? That's what family trusts can do. The good news is that you don't need to be a financial wizard to understand how they work. In this blog, we're going to discuss family trusts in a simple, jargon-free way. If you're interested in protecting your family's financial future, stick around, and let's unravel this together!
Introduction to Family Trusts
Family trusts have been used for generations to allow families to safely pass along their assets to future generations. They are legal documents that make it easier to distribute wealth while helping to avoid probate, minimize gift taxes, and keep the assets safe for the benefit of your loved ones. Any challenges to a will after death would also be avoided if a family trust is in place.
Family Trust Benefits
Setting up a family trust ensures that your loved ones are taken care of after you're gone. With a family trust, you are able to decide how your assets get split up, and specify in detail how this is done. This makes things much easier and cuts down costs in the long run. It also reduces and gift taxes that your beneficiaries might receive and eliminates any disagreements, as is sometimes the case if only a last will is done.
Family trusts are not a matter of public record. This means that your personal information is not published for everyone to see.
Setting up a family trust can also reduce taxes. Beneficiaries are sometimes burdened with a hefty tax levy on gifts that are left for them after a loved one passes. Using a trust will help reduce the gift tax that your family members will need to pay.
Trust Basics
A trust is a legal agreement between three parties - the grantor, trustee and beneficiary. The grantor is the person who creates the trust, and outlines where the assets should go and how they should be distributed. The trustee looks after the trust, according to the instructions in the trust document. The beneficiary is the person or group who benefits from the trust.
Trusts skip the probate process, keep your assets safe and private, and make it easier to pass along to your family members after you're gone.
Trusts are considered to be a separate entity from the grantor. This protects the trust assets in the event of divorce or bankruptcy. There a many different types of family trusts, such as a revocable family trust (this can be changed), an irrevocable family trust (this is unable to be changed), a testament trust (after death), a special needs trust, a marital trust (for a surviving spouse) and a charity trust. Each trust holds different values and benefits and an estate planning attorney can help you determine which one will best suit your needs.
Choosing a Trustee
The person you choose to look after your trust is so important, and you will need to keep a few things in mind when making your selection.
Your trustee should be someone who is able to make sound investment decisions. They should know the laws related to trusts and be able to follow these while the manage. They need to be honest and trustworthy, and be willing to keep the lines of communication open with the beneficiaries, as well as other trustees. A financial advisor is often someone best-suited for this role.
Choosing Trust Assets
Start by taking inventory of your big-ticket items. These could include houses, small business items, collectibles, and mementos that are sentimental or have a large financial value.
Next, you could include items that your loved ones have expressed interest in or that you would like them to pass on to their children. You can also add items that you might buy or inherit in the future (registered retirement savings come to mind).
A financial advisor can guide you through this process, to ensure that you have thought of everything that is important to you and your loved ones.
Trust Agreements
Trust agreements are legal documents that keep your assets safe and make sure that your memory lives on.
A well-written trust agreement should specify how the trustee should manage and distribute the property in the trust, in order to maximize the financial benefit to the beneficiaries. By making the trust agreement clear, you can have peace of mind, knowing that your wishes will be taken care of after your passing.
An estate planning attorney will be able to guide you through the process of creating a solid family trust agreement that will provide for your family members in the future.
Family Trust Funding
After you set up a family trust, you will need to change the legal ownership of the trust assets, in order to protect your wealth in the event of a divorce or bankruptcy. The property and any businesses in the trust will need to show that the trust is now the new owner (as opposed to the grantor). This means re-registering stocks and bonds, changing name on bank accounts and updating other investments. An estate planning attorney is recommended to help guide you through this process, as there are laws about changing ownership of assets that need to be followed.
Trust Administration
The trustee needs to continually monitor the family trust to ensure that the assets are kept safe and invested wisely. They will need to keep up with any changes in estate planning laws, government benefits and tax policies or any other rules that might affect the assets of the trust. Any changes should be communicated to both the grantor and beneficiary.
Lawyers, accountants or financial advisors are all great resources to help administer your family trust. They are experts in this field and will ensure that the trust is managed in a way that will best financial benefit to the beneficiaries.
Trust Taxes
The rules around trusts, including tax-free amounts and deductions, can be different depending on the state or province. Some places might tax the assets in the trust, or income, including personal finance, every year, whereas others may not. Understanding the pros and cons of different states or provinces can help families decide where to establish their trust.
It's important to stay up to date on estate taxes, location-dependent rules or laws and any changing restrictions in order to pass on as much wealth as possible.
An attorney who understands estate taxes can guide you through this complex component of your family trust and help you establish it in a way that best meets your goals.
Succession Planning and Trustees
One of the ultimate goals of a family trust is to pass along wealth and assets to the next generation. It's so important to pick the right trustee, to ensure that you provide for your loved ones in the way that you intend. The trustee should share the same values and goals for the trust that the grantor has.
By making a strong plan for the future, you can keep your legacy safe and set up your own family trust that will protect your wealth for years to come.
Legal Counsel
To establish a family trust, you need to seek advice from someone who understands estate taxes and the many benefits that a trust can provide. An estate planning attorney will know the local and national laws, tax rules and will be able to guide you when you transfer your assets to your trust. They will take a close look at what you own, what you want to achieve, and how your family works, creating a family trust that safeguards all your assets and makes sure your family members are taken care of when the time is right.
The end result will be a trust that will lower taxes, avoid probate and disagreements and maximize the financial benefit to the beneficiaries. Your trust will not be part of the public record and the terms will be kept out of the local register. This ensures the privacy for all parties of the family trust.

Different Ways to Document Life Stories
There are a number of different ways you can keep your loved one's stories alive. One simple way is just having a good old chat. Whether it's via phone call, video call or in-person, this is a great idea for capturing your family's history. If you need a list of questions to get you started, take a look at some sample questions that we’ve put together.
Another fun way is to get out some photos, home movies, or other special items to help spark memories. Ask them to share all the stories behind them.
Technology can be a great tool to help keep memories alive. A phone or video call lets you hear your loved one's voice and see their facial expressions. By recording the call, you can easily share it with your family, to keep around for future generations.
We've outlined some of the best ways to record and document your family history below. You might find that one of these, or a combination of a few of these, work best for you. The important thing is to capture and preserve these stories, so that they can stay with you and your children forever.
If you don't have time to do this yourself, No Story Lost can take care of everything. Using a combination of phone or video calls, with some pre-written questions, we interview your loved ones and produce a beautiful hardcover book of memories that your family can cherish forever.
Phone Interviews
A phone call is a great way to have a natural conversation that can bring out both personal and family stories. You can learn new things, ask fresh questions, and capture the sound of their voice, as they share their memories.
This method is the most popular way that we capture our clients' memories at No Story Lost. We find that sending the questions ahead of time lets the storyteller think about their memories, and our interviewers are skilled at letting their answers lead the interview.
Video Interviews
Thanks to the pandemic, video calls have become extremely popular. It allows us to keep in touch with family members who are far away and lets us see their faces. It's also a great way to get together when you can't be in the same physical location.
When you have a video interview, your loved one can show things like photos, keepsakes and other mementos that add to their story. These interviews can be recorded and saved digitally, making it easy to preserve and share with future generations.
Written Interviews
By asking questions in written form, you allow your relatives to really dig into their memories, experiences, and wisdom. This helps them think about their life in a structured way, making sure no important stories or details get left out.
Start with basic questions about their early life, like where they were born, their family, and childhood memories. You can ask about school, work, and major milestones. Feel free to ask about accomplishments, challenges, failures and regrets. Any questions that encourage them to share their feelings about their life are great questions! If you would like a list of questions to get started, click here for a sample.
We find that a combination of both a written interview and phone or video call works really well and helps bring out the storyteller's best memories.
If you already have a written interview that you would like put into story form, we can edit it and include it in your book, along with the phone interviews that we conduct as part of our package. We will reduce the amount of interviewing by one hour for every 3,000 words of written content provided.
In-Person Interviews
Another great way to your family history is by having a face-to-face discussion. These up-close-and-personal talks are great if you live close to your relative and can be in the same location.
To have a really good in-person chat, pick a space that feels safe and familiar, where your loved one feels comfortable about sharing their thoughts and memories. Use open-ended questions and stay flexible. Let the chat go where it wants to, following unexpected twists and turns. Remember to be patient as they take their time to remember their stories - keep them comfortable and engaged!
If you can, use a video camera (ask their permission first) to record the session. This will allow you to keep these stories to write them down later, or just pass on to future generations.
If you don't have time to do this yourself and would like someone to fly in to do in-person interviews and create a complete book for you, our friends at Log Your Legacy can help!
Journals
Reading a loved one's journals gives us a very intimate view of their lives. This gives us more than just a history of their life events; it also lets us see their thoughts and feelings about these happenings.
Journals often provide the most real version of your loved one's life stories, unfiltered and written for themselves. As these are usually not intended to be shared among the masses, you will need to use your judgement when sharing these personal stories.
Scrapbooks and Photo Albums
Making a scrapbook or photo album is a great way to organize memories and life events. Who doesn't love looking through wedding albums, or a baby's first year? Including handwritten notes and other keepsakes keep it personal and help tell their own story.
Our No Story Lost books include a combination of family stories along with photos, to capture memories in a meaningful way. Click here to see a collection of some of our book samples.
Genealogy and Family Trees
How many branches are on your family tree? Tracing your genealogy or making a family tree is a great way to visually track your family's life story. You can ask your mom, dad or grandparent what they remember to get started, and then use online databases to fill in any blanks.
Using a family tree can help bring out the real-life and funny family stories. While creating a family tree with your loved one, you can ask them questions about what they remember about their childhood. Just seeing certain names can help jog their memory about different stories.
Collaborative Storytelling
Sometimes your loved one can be reluctant or shy about sharing their stories. While they could talk about their friends or family for hours, they might not like the spotlight to be on them. Talking to people who are close to your loved ones can help provide a more complete picture. Something like "I did well in school" from the storyteller could actually be "He graduated at the top of his class" when you hear about it from a close friend or other relative.
Talk to people who were really close to your loved one, like a sibling, old friend or neighbour. Don't be surprised if you hear stories that you hadn't heard before! Feel free to ask for more details when they give you answers.
Putting It All Together
While it's great to learn about your family history, it might be overwhelming if you want to organize it in a way that makes it easy to pass down to future generations. Some families intend to capture these memories, but everyday life gets in the away. We hear from so many people who wished that they had documented their loved one's stories before they passed. At No Story Lost, we can take care of everything for you - we schedule and conduct interviews, record and edit the transcripts, add your favourite pictures and turn them into a beautiful coffee table book to cherish forever.
